Gibralfaro castle was built back in the 10th century, and looms high over Malaga city and port. Pace its restored ramparts and lookout towers, spying Malaga’s La Malagueta bullring far below.
If you're an art enthusiast head over to the Pablo Picasso museum. The artist was born and spent his early childhood in Malaga. On display are over 150 works including paintings, sketches and sculptures donated by Picasso's family. There is also a library dedicated to titles about the artist.

Beyond Malaga
Head west to the lively beachside resorts that cluster the Costa del Sol, such as Marbella, Estepona and the more relaxed, picturesque villages in between.
Continue along the coast to Gibraltar. 'The Rock' offers visitors a small taste of the UK in Spain, including red telephone boxes, pubs and afternoon teas. Don't miss the mischievous Barbary macaques living at the Queen's Gate and in the area of the Great Siege Tunnels.
You could venture inland towards the foothills of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountain range, which peaks just past the beautiful city of Granada. It’s a 90-minute drive from Malaga to the city of Granada, which is most famous for the lavish Alhambra palace.
Take a detour to the delightful village of Alhama de Granada, perched on the edge of the gorge, and relax at its myriad of outdoor terraces and tapas bars. Or enjoy its warm thermal waters, the properties of which have been famous for hundreds of years. Follow the signs to Balneario and enjoy the naturally hot pools close to the spa hotel.

Country driving laws
Mobile phones may not be used at all whilst driving
Do not use headphones when driving (except hearing aids)
Dipped headlights must be used in poor daylight visibility
Always use indicators, you will be fined for not using indicators when needed
Cyclists have right of way, at all times
Speed limits All speed signs will be in km/h.
For a standard Avis rental vehicle with no trailers:

Rural areas: 90 km/h (55 mph)
Motorways: 120km/h (74mph)

Child safety / Seatbelt laws
It is compulsory for the driver and all passengers to wear a seatbelt
Children aged under 12 and less than 135cm tall must be seated in an appropriate child restraint for their size
Children aged under 12 are not allowed to sit in the front seat
